Stob Coire Nan Lochain

The team and I headed up Stob Coire nan Lochain today. As we left the car the sun was shining, there was a good frost on the ground and fresh snow on the mountains making for a beautiful morning. We made our way up into the Coire and explored the reasons for a High avalanche forecast before making our way up the West ridge. We then looked at use of the rope for navigating near an edge and for checking out the stability of a slope to be used for descent. We turned around and headed down as high winds were forecast and got nailed as we hit the base of the Coire. The world went white and we managed about 3 steps between each blast that dropped us to our knees. We were exhilarated to drop back into the valley with cheeks glowing but felt sorry for the climbers we saw on Ordinary Route who would have been having a rough time in the wind. There was a massive amount of fresh snow, strong cross winds and lots of windslab about so take care over the next few days in route choice, especially as temperatures are set to rise tomorrow afternoon.
