Winters back in town!
It has been snowing steadily for the last couple of days and nights here in Snowdonia and there is now snow down to the valley floor. I was out with Jim today who is on my mentor scheme. We were fortunate enough to follow the big footprints of Baggy into Cwm Cneifion as the snow was 6 inches deep for much of the walk in. We headed in with an open mind as lots of fresh snow doesn't necessarily make for good climbing! We plumped for the Cneifion Arete which gave a wonderful winter climb at about grade III for the first couple of pitches and then easing off. We then enjoyed a great bum slide down the side of the False Gribin. There was lots of snow, some rime ice, the turf was frozen and we had some snow showers with some sunny spells in between. Another beautiful day that sees us winter climbing for the 6th month in a row here in Wales!
