Crib Goch in the sunshine

It has been another stunning day here in Snowdonia and to make the most of it we headed along Crib Goch on the second day of our classic scrambles course. It was beautifully quiet and there was not a breath of wind or cloud in the sky - how could it get better than that!

Scrambling on the Gribin Ridge

This week I have a classic scrambles week running here in Snowdonia and have been out with Shamaila, Sam, Mark, Dan and Mike today in the beautiful sunshine. We headed up the Gribin Ridge and down Seniors Ridge to give a stunning day out.

I just wanted to say thank you for a great week, I certainly got everything out of it that I wanted to. I thought both yours and Huw's instruction was fantastic; very professional, but at the same time it felt like we were out in the hills with a couple of mates!

Crib Goch in the sunshine

I have been out with Sharon today for a day of private guiding on Crib Goch, whilst Huw took the mountain craft course on their expedition to the Moelwyns. It has been a beautiful day and with very little wind, stunning views and a quiet car park at Pen Y Pass it was a perfect day for Sharon to tick of this classic route - lovely!

Sunshine!

It has been pretty windy here in Snowdonia today but that has meant that the poor weather has cleared through quicker than expected and we have enjoyed some lovely sunshine. I took the mountain craft team scrambling and we headed into Cwm Idwal focusing on coaching movement skills and risk assessment in ascent and descent, a lovely day.

Moel Siabod & Tour of the Rescue Base

For the second day of our mountain craft course we headed up Moel Siabod which gave some excellent, testing navigation in thick cloud. This allowed us to practise all of the skills we put in place yesterday and learn some new ones. This evening we then headed to LLMRT base where we looked at how Mountain Rescue operates in the UK and covered emergency procedures in the mountains.

Mountaincraft Course

Today was the first day of our 6 day Mountaincraft course and it was ideal weather for learning navigation but a bit of a shock after the warmth of last week. As I drove home down the Ogwen Valley the clouds parted for the first time and I was surprised to see just how much snow had fallen during the day, its only cosmetic but looked very pretty. There is a bit of a lack of photos from today, thats how wet it was! We spent the day looking at the foundation skills of mountain navigation, mountain weather and mountain skills, we also tested our waterproofs!

Advanced Navigation Day

I have been running an advanced navigation course today assisted by Huw and with a great bunch of people who were all at various stages of their mountain training awards. We had some lovely clear weather and made the most of the visibility to spend the day relating map to ground and interpreting contours on our bespoke "contour only" mapping. A cracking day and I even had a testimonial waiting when I got in - we had a rescue this evening so I was slightly delayed!

Evening Rob, just landed home after a cracking day on the course today. Just wanted to say thanks very much to Huw(apologies if spelling incorrect) and yourself. To be honest I thought it would be a bit full on but I couldn't have been further from the truth. We didn't just learn about navigation though, we were given the opportunity to pick up tons of stuff about the environment and geology which made for a thoroughly great day.
I shall be recommending the day to as many folk as I can.
I'll be back for more training with you if you'll have me.

Stunning weather on Anglesey

I have been out camping and kayaking with the kids on Anglesey for the last couple of days, it has been stunning - more like summer than Easter. What a beautiful place we live!

Another beautiful day in Snowdonia

For the second day of our mountain skills course here in Snowdonia the boys and I headed up Y Garn in the beautiful Easter sunshine. It was not ideal weather for practising navigation but it was a wonderful place to be!

Sunny Easter Weekend

It has been a stunning day here in Snowdonia. The sun has come out to play and the park is busy with visitors, it must be Easter! I have been running a mountain skills course and have spent the day on the back of Snowdon, I have even managed to catch the sun a bit today as it caught us all out a little! A superb day to be out in the mountains.

I am off this week, enjoying some family time at home with the kids. It is pretty wild weather and still quite cold too, we braved a walk this afternoon and got this shot of the fresh snow that had fallen this morning on Snowdon.

LLMRT Training

Its a beautiful spring weekend here in Snowdonia. I have been out with LLMRT today doing some training in the Llanberis Pass and its been lovely!

Ski Touring

Whilst I am now home in North Wales our last winter course is taking place in the Cairngorms. Our ski touring course is being run by Di Gilbert and she has been out with 6 clients seeking snow to enjoy the spring like conditions, heres a couple of snaps from Di.

Green Gully, Ben Nevis

For the last day of our winter mountaineering course I have had a stunning days work on the Ben today on Green Gully (IV,4). We enjoyed wonderful conditions and it was a great finale to my winter season. Thats Morocco, two weeks in the Alps a week in Norway and 6 weeks in Scotland done. 
Many thanks to everyone who has shared the winter with me - its been amazing! Home to be a Dad again now, and of course the spring rock climbing season!
